A PETROL pump owner was sprayed with bullets at his Nirala Nagar residence in Hasanganj for saying ‘no’ to the land mafia on Friday night. The victim Agasta Kumar Agrawal alias Kukku had refused to provide passage to a prime land located behind his petrol pump in Alambagh.
The kin of the deceased have named slain ex-MLC Ajit Singh’s aide Santosh Singh and his associates Israr and Pervez. Santosh reportedly had issued threats to Agrawal about a week back. The police later arrested Israr of Sardarikhera and Vinod Trivedi of Om Nagar, Alambagh.
The incident took place when Agrawal reached his 2/1, Sector B, Kalakunj residence. As he got down of the vehicle, he saw two youths on a mobike. Sensing trouble, Agrawal started running towards his neighbour PK Sinha’s house. However, the armed youths chased him opening indiscriminate fire aiming Agrawal.
The victim suffered four bullets in his body and fell in the corridor of Sinha’s house. Sinha’s son Ashutosh and his tenant Anurag Singh were shocked seeing Agrawal writhing in pain in a pool of blood. Meanwhile, Agrawal’s wife Anjani, son Harshit and his elder brother Ram Mohan Agrawal too had rushed to their neighbour’s place. They rushed Agrawal to the KGMU Trauma centre but he was declared brought dead.
Primary investigation revealed that Agrawal was facing threats from local goons in Alambagh where he owned the ‘Kohli petrol pump’. A prime land behind the petrol pump was the bone of contention between him and the land mafia there.
The land sharks had grabbed the land but they were unable to sell it off as the petrol pump is located right in front of the land.
The goons were asking Agrawal to allow them to make a passage to the land through the petrol pump but the victim had refused. A brother duo, who are railway contractors and live in Alambagh, too were threatening Agrawal on behalf of the land sharks. The contractors are close to jailed don Abhay Singh.
