PG courses at Barkatullah to have semester system

SEMESTER SYSTEM will be implemented in the previous (first) year of the post-graduate courses of the Barkatullah University from the next academic session (2007-08). The Academic Council of the university approved of this decision during the annual meeting held on Saturday.
The entire PG course will be conducted on semester basis in the university and the first step will be to implement the system for the previous year students during the next session.
The semester system will be implemented for final year students during the following academic session (2008-09). In view of this, the academic council had directed chairpersons of the Boards of Studies (BoS) of various subjects to finalise the revised syllabus as soon as possible and bring it in print mode by April/May 2007.
The BoS chairpersons were asked to get the revised syllabi approved from all relevant committees including the standing committee and the executive council of the university.
The meeting also discussed proposals of awarding five honourary doctorates in various subjects during the convocation to be held in February 2007.
The matter of awarding gold medals to toppers of various classes was also discussed and the council directed that the approval of the matter be sought from various committees after the proposals for the honourary doctorates were received.
The council also directed chairpersons of the BoSs to give recommendations regarding model infrastructure required for establishing departments of various subjects, to help inspecting teams of the university.
BoSs are also to recommend actions that will ensure that affiliated colleges adhere to a model set of infrastructure required for a particular department.
The meeting was chaired by vice-chancellor Prof R S Sirohi. Registrar Dr Sanjay Tiwari, heads of various departments, deans of different faculties and senior professors, apart from the chairpersons of the boards of studies attended.
