‘The Darkest Room is an exquisitely crafted novel’
Read: Zac O’Yeah, Author, Once Upon a Time in Scandinavistan
The Black Dahlia James Ellroy It is a seminal novel by the hardest-boiled crime writer alive and is the first book of Ellroy’s L.A. Quartet series. A brilliant fiction based on a demonic personal rage that is the stuff of legends.
Good Night, My Darling Inger Frimansson
A genuinely shocking novel about a strange woman who seems to make accidents happen wherever she goes, written by the master craftswoman behind a number of psychological crime thrillers.
The Calcutta Chromosome, Amitav Ghosh
A fantastic one-off sci-fi gothic detective story which remains among the most mind-blowing narratives ever told.
Tough Guys Don’t Dance
Norman Mailer This book is a must for tough readers — with one of the most thrilling plots ever constructed. It is written by Mailer, a literary master.
The Darkest Room, Johan Theorin
A spine-chilling and exquisitely crafted novel that heralds a new trend in Swedish crime fiction, where the possibility of ghosts complicates an already spooky murder mystery.

‘In aankhon ki masti is a soulful composition’
Listen: Somesh Mathur, Singer-composer
Humein tumse pyaar kitna Kudrat
It is a beautiful melody, composed by R D Burman sahab, based on Raag Bhairavi, with a sublime poetry by Majrooh Sultanpuri sahab, rendered with such ease and flow of emotions. It is an amazing song.
Raina beeti jaye Amar Prem An all-time favourite.
composed by S D Burman sahab and rendered by the one and only Lata Mangeshkar — the musicians’ singer. It just cannot be duplicated.
Patta patta boota boota Ek Nazar
A beautifully and uniquely composed and rendered piece of music in Ragas Kalavati, Baageshri and Khamaj, by the trend setting maestro of ghazal, Mehdi Hassan sahab. Written by one of the greatest poets of Urdu, Mir Taqi Mir, this song and its lyrics are haunting.
In aankhon ki masti Umrao Jaan
Sung by the living legend, Asha Bhosale, who is the singer amongst singers, this beautiful and soulful composition by Khayyam sahab, and written by Shahryar sahab is evergreen. It showcases Asha ji’s immense versatility.
Dost ban ban ke mile
The Unforgettables This beautiful ghazal written by Saeed Rahi sahab, and sung and composed by one of my favourite musicians ever, Jagjit Singh, is a masterpiece and one of my all-time favourites. Jagjit ji is blessed with a good voice and sense of musicality, which is inimitable.

‘Café Zoe is a very trendy and chilled out restaurant ’
Eat: Allan Limmer, Executive chef, The Lalit Souk at The Taj Mahal Palace & Towers Colaba
Souk at The Taj Mahal Palace & Towers Colaba
The roof top restaurant at the Taj overlooking the Gateway of India and the city on either side gives a view to die for in a crowded city like Mumbai. Personally I prefer the day view from the restaurant. While the Mediterranean spread is very nice, I love the hot and cold mezze buffet and their a la carte menu.
China House at Grand Hyatt Kalina
The restaurant has a very warm look and resembles houses in China. The patio seating is my personal favourite. Here, authentic Chinese food, one of my favourite cuisines after being in China for some time, meets expectations.
Baluchi at The Lalit Andheri
I tried my first Indian dish here and it was absolutely divine. My favourite one is burah baluchi with garlic naan. In the restaurant, the glass-fronted kitchen permits a full view of the tandoors and charcoal grill as the chef readies the guest’s gourmet experience. It’s a very cosy restaurant set in a contemporary way.
Café Zoe Lower Parel
It is a very trendy and chilled out restaurant. It has quite a cosy setting with a unique décor and an interesting menu. I love the beetroot risotto and margaritas served here.
A small restaurant on the main road that serves the best pav bhaji, for which, strangely, I have a great liking. Their dosas are also yummy.

‘Mother India is in the true sense a Bollywood classic’
Watch: Sanjay Khanduri, Director
Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. 2003
This film is worth watching, it shows the reality of life depicted in a humorous sense. I really like the chemistry between actors Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani. A fantastic film made by Raju Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Maine Pyaar Kiya 1989
This movie has a special place in my heart. It is the best romantic movie of all time in Indian Cinema. I have seen it a zillion times on television and my VCR. The heart-warming chemistry between the lead pair, Salman Khan and Bhagyashree, is amazing.
Mother India 1957
One of the best movies ever made, a Bollywood classic. This film depicts a story of a rural Indian woman played by Nargis,
struggling through her life and brings out the love, hardships, disappointments and courage within her.
I have lost count of the number of times I have seen this film. This movie has wonderful music and beautiful village scenery.
Hats off to actor Aamir Khan for making such a wonderful movie on cricket.
Taare Zameen Par 2007
This is undoubtedly one of the finest films I have seen. I am thankful to Aamir Khan for making such a masterpiece in a gentle and beautiful manner. This film makes me cry every time I watch it.
