A PIL has been filed against veteran BJP leader LK Advani in the Gujarat High Court asking the court to direct him to pay attention to his Parliamentary constituency Gandhinagar.
An eighty-year-old KD Pandya has filed an PIL in the court saying that before Advani expresses his loyalty to his party (BJP) he should remain loyal to the electorate of Gandhinagar.
The PIL was referred to a bench headed by Justice MS Shah by the division bench of Chief Justice KS Radhakrishnan as it was in Gujarati language.
In his petition, Pandya has said "MPs in our country take important decisions without consulting electorates and there is no participation on part of the citizens in the decision making process".
Hence, they should be directed to take a referendum before taking important policy-related decisions.
Pandya has sought adoption of the process being practiced in European countries like Switzerland where referendum is taken before the leaders take important policy decisions.
Pandya has mentioned in his petition that Advani can build electorates' forum in Gandhinagar constituency which can deliberate on various issues and recommend solution to the MP.
