Even as the debate over the merits and demerits of the government's move to ban more than 800 pornographic websites rages on, the notification itself has led to an unfortunate (fortunate for some) and unintended side effect.

On Sunday, internet service providers (ISPs) were asked to block such websites, communications ministry sources told Hindustan Times.

"Certain websites have been reviewed and found to be spreading anti-social activities as hyperlinks from these websites, some of them were pornographic, so we have sent letters to internet service providers to block them. People who had no previous knowledge of the sites listed above named by the government are now better informed and their choices have become abundant.

The document has already started doing the rounds on Twitter.
