Pinterest may not have picked up in a big way in India like Facebook or Twitter did, but there are some people who’re falling for its charm. Many soon-to-be-married couples are pinning and having a lot of wedding themed discussions on the photo-sharing website.
Type Indian wedding into the search button and you will see hundreds of pinboards dedicated to the themes such as Indian wedding lehenga, jewellery, Indian wedding-themed cakes, shoes, henna (
), and wedding cards. You will also find retailers showcasing wedding products on the site. Also, there many wedding photographers who put up their work. Some Indian wedding planners, too, have made their presence on the site.
The trend is big among the NRIs, and slowly catching up in India. Wedding planner Nity Bhargava Bagla of Mystical Moments India says, “Pinterest is a hit among would-be NRI couples. I also have some Indian followers now. It’s a very easy platform to share my work on themes, invites and clothes with my clients.”
While Pinterest may be a good place to advertise to potential customers, many pinners aren’t really looking to hire, but are there simply to take ideas and use them in their own weddings. Users are seeking inspiration from Pinterest, right from designing their wedding outfit to choosing the wedding theme.
Says Divya Jain, an avid Pinterest user, “Wedding planners may not fit into everyone’s budgets. But, Pinterest is a great platform to pick up DIY (do-it-yourself) ideas and then implement them in your own wedding. My cousin saw a lehenga on Pinterest and got exactly that stitched for her wedding.”
