In a joint operation, the Jammu police and troops of 14 Sikh LI on Wednesday foiled an attempt to assassinate Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh with the arrest of three militants, who are said to be members of the Shiromani Akali Panj Pradhani, Punjab.

Though the police maintained that they were yet to ascertain which militant group the three belonged to, sources said the militants had links with the Pakistan-based Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) operational head Ranjeet Singh Neeta.

The three were carrying a consignment of weapons on the instructions of the KZF to target the Dera chief.

Addressing reporters, Jammu SSP Alok Kumar said that acting on specific information, the rural wing of the Jammu police and troops of 14 Sikh LI intercepted an Alto car on the Jammu-Akhnoor road.

A sealed bag containing an AK-56 rifle, two AK magazines, 150 AK rounds, five Chinese pistols, five pistol magazines and 93 rounds of Chinese pistol were recovered from the boot of the car.

IGP K Rajendra said the Jammu police were in constant touch with their counterparts in Punjab and Haryana.
