IF ALL goes as per plans, all Allahabad University (AU) hostel inmates will have to deposit their hostel fee as well as the mess fee along with the university fee itself from the next year. The change will greatly relieve the hostel superintendents who till now had to remain busy with the task of collecting the hostel fee till December every academic year.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting attended by dean of students welfare Prof Jagdamba Singh and AU executive council member HN Mehrotra.
The meeting was chaired by vice-chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe on Saturday.
The proposal will now be put before the executive council for approval and implementation.
During the meeting, that could not be attended by EC member Ashok Bajpai nominated to the committee by the VC, decisions to raise the height of the boundary wall of the AU women’s hostel, to repair the toilets and bathrooms of the hostels were also taken. The meeting also decided to improve the potable water system in hostels and strengthen the medicare support for students.
Terms of over half-a-dozen hostel superintendents nearing expiry, was extended at the meeting. It also short-listed the name of a lady teacher for the post of superintendent of the newly constructed Kalpana Chawla Hostel in the varsity.
Her name will be put before the EC for approval now.
Earlier, an interaction session with each of the new applicants for the post of hostel superintendents was held.
The Allahabad University and Colleges Karmachari Union (AUCKU) members decided to hand over a charter of demands to the Executive Council. At a meeting held here on Saturday, AUCKU president Kanan Dasgupta said union members discussed their demands that included regularisation of daily wage staff, raise in salary, promotion to non-teaching employees as per the Central rules.
The meeting decided to submit a memorandum to all the AU executive council members.
