Thane city is poised to get a planetarium and a second medical college.

This was announced by Thane Municipal Commi-ssioner Nandkumar Jantre while presenting the Rs 1,426-crore civic budget on Tuesday.

No increase in taxes has been proposed announced. Besides extra 110 mlpd of water supply, the city’s fleet of buses will also be increased.

Given Thane’s burgeoning population, the Thane Municipal Corporation proposed a performing arts centre for Thane and a sports complex at Mumbra.

The civic body plans to finish construction of a flyover near Mumbra station by March 15 and the Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme project at Thane station latest by April.

The civic body will also carry out beautification of the Masunda and Siddheshwar lakes.

“We have made a budget provision of 26 per cent for the poor and Rs 2 crore for development of the disabled…There will be no extra burden on the common man,” Jantre said.
