Playing it safe online
A national event focusing on Internet safety ends in the city today with a street play competition
The Data Security Council of India (DSCI), in association with Facebook, Google, Kaspersky and Microsoft, and Fever 104 FM, launched the Indian edition of Stop Think Connect last week, with the theme — Internet Safety and You, to increase awareness among netizens about being safe online. The initiative was carried out in major cities such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata, in the form of street plays. The Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata levels of the competition were conducted over the past few days.
“Our mission is to make the world more open and connected. And with more than a billion users on our site to share photos, news and their stories, it is important to make sure that the online environment where people connect and share is also a safe one,” says Manoj Varghese, director, Facebook India. The social outreach initiative has seen around 20 short plays in the participating cities. The duration of each play has been around 10 minutes.
“The idea is to make the event more participative and we have encouraged on-the-spot participation as well. We had a good response at Jadavpur University in Kolkata and are expecting around six teams from Mumbai,” says Neha Chadha, Fever 104 FM.
College students can register on the spot and the event is open to all.
Today at Atharva College of Engineering, Charkop Naka, Malad (W), from 12 noon to 3 pm.
