Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday assured Jammu and Kashmir that the Centre would provide full support to accelerate economic reconstruction and revival process in the state.
The assurance came at a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister at SK International Convention Centre (SKICC) here, an official spokesman told PTI.
Singh said his office will ensure monitoring of all priority development sectors mentioned in the presentation given by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Appreciating the CM's presentation on Prime Minister's Gram Sadak Yojana, Singh said Rs 227 crore extra funds would be provided for land acquisition costs under the scheme.
He also announced a revised cost of about Rs 640 crore for Mughal Road, which connects Shopian in south Kashmir with Poonch in Jammu. Rs 350 crore goes for rehabilitation of Dal and Nagin lakes.
Appreciating the points raised by the Chief Minister for addressing unemployment problem, Singh said the state has rightly emphasized on the question of increasing employment and employability among the youth.
"The government of India will readily support any initiative in this sector and shall work shoulder to shoulder and involve large number of youth in constructive nation building activities," he said.
He further added that as part of all-India initiatives, the Union ministry of youth affairs will enroll, deploy and manage around 8000 young persons from the state as volunteers every year with honorarium of Rs 2500 per month.
