The twin blasts in Guwahati on Sunday evening were strongly condemned by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

He called the act one of cowardice and violence.

Twelve people were killed and more than 52 injured, in two near-simultaneous bomb blasts triggered in the busy commercial Fancy Bazaar and Noonmati area of the city.

Union Home Secretary VK Duggal is likely to visit Guwahati on Monday for a first hand assessment of the security scenario in the wake of the blasts.

Duggal will review the situation with senior officials of the Army, paramilitary and the police.

Meanwhile the Centre has convened a high-level meeting on Monday to discuss the security situation in Assam.
