PM congratulates new Israeli PM Ehud Olmert

Manmohan Singh congratulated Olmert and conveyed his desire to continue to work closely with him for better bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday congratulated Ehud Olmert on his assumption of charge as Israeli Prime Minister and conveyed his desire to continue to work closely with him for better bilateral relations.

Singh called up Olmert, who was sworn in as the Prime Minister last week, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters.

During the conversation, Singh conveyed his desire to continue to work closely with Olmert for better India-Israel relations", Sarna said.

Olmert has been the Acting Prime Minister since January after the incumbent Ariel Sharon went into coma following a fall. Olmert was subsequently made the Interim Prime Minister from April 14.

Israeli lawmakers on May 4 approved Olmert's new coalition.
