PM congratulates Pachauri and IPCC on winning Nobel
Manmohan Singh congratulates IPCC and its Chairman RK Pachauri on winning the Nobel Prize for Peace, saying it was a historic moment for India.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday congratulated the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate and its Chairman RK Pachauri on winning the Nobel Prize for Peace, saying it was a historic moment for India.
"It is a historic moment for Dr Pachauri and India. Never before has the UN body headed by an Indian been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize," Singh said in his congratulatory message.
He said Pachauri and the team have done yeoman service in awakening our consciousness about the dangers of global warming and the measures that need to be taken urgently to address the serious challenges posed by it.
Singh said the award was a big boost to the efforts of Pachauri and his team of scientists.
"I am sure that it will encourage them to work with renewed vigour towards a more sustainable future,"
