The government is understood to have discussed a financial package for drought-hit Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, which has witnessed a spate of suicides by farmers.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia attended the meeting at the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence to discuss the package, official sources said.
The package, which is being worked out for Vidarbha, will be announced by Prime Minister during his visit to the region.
On Tuesday, Chidambaram held a meeting with Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on the package.
The economic policy direction for the next generation reforms also came up for discussion during Wednesday's meeting.
