PM lays foundation stone for new manufacturing facility

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new power equipment manufacturing plant, being set up as a joint venture by public sector giants NTPC and BHEL, at Mannavaram village near here, and dedicated it to the country today.

The Rs 6000 crore plant is being set up by NBPPL, the joint venture company formed by NTPC and BHEL, and will be the first integrated plant in the country to manufacture turbines, generators and boilers under one roof.

Production will go into full stream by 2015 and have a capacity to manufacture up to 5000 MW of power equipment annually.

NBPPL Chairman and Managing Director C P Singh said the joint venture company would help meet huge emerging demand for setting up of new power projects in the country. Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan, Union Ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Ministers of State Arun Yadav, Bharat Singh Solanki and AP industries minister Kanna Lakshmi Narayana attended the function.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah could not attend as he was indisposed.
