Varanasi to go digital

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi is all set to become role model of Digital India campaign — one of the Centre’s most prestigious projects.

Out of 141 WiFi hot spots in Uttar Pradesh, 16 will be in Modi’s constituency. These hot spots will be in addition to the existing WiFi free zones at the famed ghats of Kashi.

Telecom major BSNL, a Union government controlled telephone operator, has been roped in to fulfill Modi’s dream of Digital India in his constituency Varanasi and rest of Purvanchal.

And this transformation of Kashi into ‘Digital Kashi’ will be completed in a time-bound manner by August 31. The BSNL has planned massive revamp of the existing infrastructure for digital transformation of Kashi.

Existing 160 base transceiver stations (BTS) of the BSNL are all set to be replaced with ultra-modern high-tech IP-based towers. Out of this, 10 BTS towers have already been replaced.

All these BTS towers would work on Giga Byte connectivity to ensure high speed internet connectivity and minimal call drop. In addition to this 60 news BTS towers would be installed in Varanasi.

“Being PM Modi’s constituency, Varanasi is on the priority list of BSNL for rolling out Digital India campaign,” said HR Shukla, chief general manager, BSNL.
