Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning to reach out to around 17 lakh police personnel in the country by sending them SMSes on coming Republic Day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning to reach out to around 17 lakh police personnel in the country by sending them SMSes on coming Republic Day.

The PM is learnt to have expressed his desire to wish each police personnel on the Republic Day during the just concluded three-day DGPs conference held in Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, ources said.

An officer who participated in the conference said the PM asked the state police chiefs to prepare the contact lists of personnel in order to send them SMSes.

During his interactions with the police brass, the PM also suggested that all police personnel should practice yoga before starting the day and if necessary, police stations should hire yoga teachers for the benefit of the security personnel.

Asking the police personnel to use traditional and social media to their advantage, he also learnt to have advocated interactions between police and journalists to put across the police’s point of view.

Modi also praised the dedication and selfless service put in by the police officers, and their commitment to duty which, he said, was the essence of the nation’s security, a home ministry statement had said earlier.
