Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a ride in the national capital’s Metro for the first time on Saturday while going to Dwarka to inaugurate the new National Intelligence Academy.
Modi travelled in the airport express line of the Metro from Dhaula Kuan to Dwarka along with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Officials said Modi travelled by Metro to avoid causing inconvenience to the public because of his security arrangements. Roads are closed for some time whenever the prime minister travels within Delhi.
In a set of tweets, Modi praised E Sreedharan, the retired Indian Engineering Service officer widely credited for the success of the Delhi Metro.
“Really enjoyed the ride. Thanks Delhi Metro. Thanks Sreedharan ji!” he posted in a tweet.

“Sreedharan ji would always tell me to experience the Delhi Metro. Today I had the opportunity to do so on the way to Dwarka,” he said in a second tweet.
