Official sources in Guwahati said that heavy rains lashed the district and other areas of lower Assam forcing the Prime Minister to cancel the visit. He was scheduled to lay the foundation of a university there.
The Prime Minister was scheduled to leave for New Delhi after his visit to Tata Consultancy Services at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and an interaction with its students and faculty.
The Prime Minister's visit to Nagaon in central Assam, where he was scheduled to address a public rally on Monday, was also cancelled due to bad weather.
The Prime Minister on a two-day visit had arrived yesterday at Jorhat in upper Assam.
