The senior Left leaders met Singh on Tuesday to express their apprehensions on the deal. The two leaders urged the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter and stop the takeover. The news agency should not be taken over a by a single media company. They also conveyed their apprehensions about a monopoly being created with the same company owning television channels, a newspaper and now a news agency.

The Left had earlier written to the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter. On Tuesday, they reiterated their earlier demand that it was necessary to maintain the character of the news agency under section 25 of the Companies Act. They urged the Prime Minister to find ways to help turn around UNI so that they can function as an effective news agency.
