The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will address the nation on Friday regarding the Mumbai terror attacks. Following a cabinet meeting, here this morning, Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil told reporters that the government was monitoring the situation closely and working with the Maharashtra state government to resolve the problem.
“The first priority is to free the hostages,” Patil said and asserted that the government would not resort to playing blame games. “They (the terrorists) want to frighten us, but we as a nation are strong and they will not succeed.”
Patil rushed to Mumbai late last night and returned this morning. The Prime Minister is expected to Mumbai after a day or two along with Leader of the Opposition, L.K. Advani. Though both leaders wanted to rush to Mumbai, security agencies have held that it would not be advisable for them to do so right now. While 200 commandoes of the National Security Guard were rushed to Mumbai, last night, an equal number are being despatched today.
