Police action 'most inhuman attack in judicial history’: BJP

india Updated: Feb 21, 2009 23:37 IST

The BJP on Saturday flayed the police action on lawyers in Tamil Nadu, saying it was “most inhuman attack in judicial history”.

Party National Secretary S Thirunavakkarasu told reporters in Coimbatore that the assault on lawyers, particularly on a judge, appeared to be a “well planned plot” and police had charged towards lawyers as if they were anti-socials or rowdy elements.

The government, which ordered a CBI probe into the incident, should take stringent action against the officials, he said on the sidelines of the state executive meeting of BJP Legal Cellin coimbatore.

Being an MP, he would put his lot behind the Cell’s demand for setting up a bench of Supreme Court at Chennai, he said.

On the party’s stand on Sri Lankan Tamils issue, he said with the consent of central leadership, but with certain limitations, the party was fighting for the cause of Tamils in that nation.

The statement of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the issue appeared to be that of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and not that of an Indian minister, he alleged.
