An assistant sub-inspector of police was caught by vigilance sleuths here while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1000 from from a man to release a bike seized in an accident case, official sources said on Monday.
ASI Dhruba Charan Rout of Chhend police station of the steel town was caught on Sunday while accepting the bribe money from one Hemanta Kumar Swain, they said.
The ASI had allegedly demanded the bribe to release the bike which was seized by police in an accident case involving Hemanta's son a week back, the sources said.
The vigilance personnel seized the bribe from Rout and he was arrested. He was forwarded to a vigilance court at Sambalpur, they said.
Meanwhile, Rourkela Superintendent of Police Diptesh Patnaik transferred the Chhend inspector in-charge Ranjan Kumar Patnaik to local police headquarter and sector 15 IIC was given additional charge of Chhend police station till further order, police said.
