A day after a blast in the basement of the Qazi Wali Mosque in Dasna, the local police on Tuesday asked the Lucknow forensic department to ascertain the contents of the device that caused the explosion. No casualty was reported in the blast.
The police and the forensic team collected samples from the site, but are yet to ascertain reason behind the incident.
“We had just finished prayers when we heard an explosion. Smoke soon engulfed the mosque and the nearby area. Some local residents immediately informed the police. They arrived within 10 minutes,” said Imam Mujib-ur-Rehman.
The blast has ripped off the mosque’s door and partly damaged its walls.
“It has been carried out purportedly by some miscreants to disturb peace of the area,” said Sjid Hussain, chairman, Dasna nagar panchayat.
Meanwhile, the police are are awaiting the forensic reports. “It is only after we get the forensic reports will we be able to ascertain the reason behind the incident,” said Prashant Kumar, senior superintendent of police.
When Hindustan Times visited the site on Tuesday, the basement’s door was damaged, suggesting that the blast took place outside the room.
Following the incident, policemen have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident. Dasna was in news last September when defaced pages of a religious book were found near the railway tracks in the area. Clashes between the police and mob left six persons dead.
