An officer of the cybercrime cell said on Monday the Mumbai Police were in touch with Google, Facebook and YouTube to block a video by Tanmay Bhat that has triggered a row over alleged insult of Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar.
Assistant commissioner of police Yashwant Pathak told ANI the police were also trying to find out the IP address of the video. An IP address identifies a device on the internet.
The police have initiated a probe on a complaint against comedian Bhat’s video of the mock conversation between Mangeshkar and Tendulkar, with the Shiv Sena, BJP and MNS demanding action against him and AIB.
Among other things in the video titled ‘Sachin v/s Lata Civil War’, Bhat suggests why the 86-year old Lata is still ‘alive’ and debates who the better player between Tendulkar and Kohli is.
On his part, Bhat retorted: “LoL, Twitter, jaha pe logo ke marne se pehle unke marne ki khabar trend hoti hai, ‘tastleless’ aur ‘crass’ jaise words use kar rahi hai.”
“When you guys write about me tomorrow, can you please use my snapchat ID - it’s thetanmay thanks,” he said.
AIB comprises stand-up comics Bhat, Gursimran Khamba, Rohan Joshi and Ashish Shakya. Known for its quirky, satirical humour, the humour collective has gained a massive following online across social media platforms.
Last year, AIB ran into trouble following an infamous, controversial “roast”, which also featured Bollywood A-listers. The “roast” poked fun at Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, and was hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar.
