Police defuse two IEDs in Latehar

india Updated: Apr 12, 2009 22:26 IST

The police on Sunday defused two powerful improvised explosive devices planted on the Saryu-Latehar road by Naxals with an aim to target security forces, who are engaged in area domination ahead of the first phase polls.

Acting on a tip-off, police recovered the IEDs, each weighing 10 kg from near the road in Pataria Chatak village of Latehar district, SP Hemant Toppo said, adding that both the explosives were defused immediately.

Latehar, which comes under Palamau Lok Sabha constituency, is going to polls on April 16.

Sunday's recovery comes close on the heels of discovering six powerful IEDs from an area in Khunti constituency on Saturday.
