Nearly three months after the arrest of Praveen Mahajan, police on Friday filed chargesheet against him for killing his brother and BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan.
The 650-page chargesheet was filed by police in the court of a Magistrate at Bhoiwada near Dadar in Mumbai, police said.
The chargesheet contains statements of 58 witnesses, including Rekha Mahajan, wife of the Pramod Mahajan.
Praveen was arrested on April 22 after he surrendered to police saying he had shot his brother at Pramod Mahajan's residence.
The profusely bleeding Mahajan was admitted to Hinduja hospital where he struggled for life for 12 days before succumbing to his injuries.
Praveen, currently lodged in central prison, is charged with murder (section 302 IPC) and house trespass with intention to commit murder (section 449 IPC).
Praveen has given a statement to police that he had differences with his elder brother since many years and had shot at Pramod in a fit of rage, as he did not respond to him when he went to his residence to meet him on April 22.
His lawyer Nandkumar Rajurkar later urged the court to send him to psychiatrists for medical examination to determine the state of Praveen's mind on the day of the incident. However, the court turned down his plea thrice.
