A court on Lucknow this evening granted Gujarat Police three-day transit remand of Mufti Abu Bashir,an alleged mastermind of Ahmedabad serial blasts and an active member of outlawed SIMI.
Bashir was arrested earlier in the day by a joint team of Ahmedabad Police and the Anti-Terrorist Squad of Uttar Pradesh Police.
He was picked up by the team from his native Benapara village in Azamgarh district on August 14. Bashir's parents alleged that he was taken away on the pretext of some marriage proposals.
Amid tight security, he was produced before Special Remand Magistrate Sapna Singh who gave Ahmedabad Police the three-day transit remand of Bashir.
Bashir, said to be very close to SIMI General Secretary Safdar Nagauri, would be flown to Gujarat, police sources said.
The police had filed a case against him under various sections of the IPC, including treason and murder.
Gujarat Police had sought his transit remand for taking him to Ahmedabad for detailed interrogation.
Meanwhile, reports said the Uttar Pradesh Police carried out a raid at the house of Bashir on Saturday.
