Police gun down notorious criminal

THE POLICE gunned down a notorious criminal Mohd Kalim in an encounter at CPC Colony near railway godown under Collectorganj police station here on Sunday. Kalim, who carried Rs 2,500 on his head, was a member of Pervez gang.
While Kalim was shot, Parvez and his two accomplices managed to escape on a motorcycle. The police cordoned off the western part of the city and carried out raids at several places in search of the criminals.

A few months ago, Parvez, who was being brought back to Unnao jail from the court, fled from the police custody.

Talking about the encounter, SP (crime) Sripati Mis- hra said, “Kalim, who was involved in more than dozen heinous crimes, including murders and loot, in the city, was wanted by the police since 2003.”

SP (crime) was hopeful of arresting or eliminating Parvez, too. The SP (Crime) further said that the police of Anwarganj, Beconganj and Badshahinaka came to know that Parvez and his three accomplices were to murder a prominent political leader of the city. The policemen divided themselves into three groups.

nspector of Badshahinaka was on the Station Road. The Anwarganj SHO was standing with his team at Moolganj crossing, and the Beconganj police were waiting at Collectorganj.

According to the police, at 4 am on Sunday, four miscreants in two motorcycles were seen coming from Meston Road.  On spotting the miscreants at Moolganj crossing SHO Anwarganj Farmood Ali Pundheer challenged them.
The criminals turned towards the Station Road and entered the CPC colony near railway godown.

The police personnel then surrounded the criminals. The criminals opened fire on the policemen. A fierce exchange of fire between the policemen and the criminals ensued.

During the incident, the police shot dead one of the criminals while Pervez and his accomplices escaped.The criminal, who was murdered, was identified as Mohd Kalim (25), son of Sahabuddin, and a resident of Kaushambi.

Giving details about the encounter, SHO Beconganj Dharm Prakash Shukla, who was heading the police team, said, “When the police were chasing Parvez  and his accomplices at CPC colony Mohd Kalim fell from the motorcycle. He got up immediately and opened fire on the police. In fact, provided cover fire to other criminals helping them escape.”

An automatic revolver and a country-made pistol were recovered from the slain criminal.
