On August 24, two young men, Rajiv Mishra and Bhupendra Chopra, died in a bomb blast in Kanpur’s Rajiv Nagar. Their cellphone records, copies of which have been accessed by HT, show both were in touch with 20 Bajrang Dal leaders, four full-time RSS activists, and one VHP leader. This includes Bajrang Dal National Convenor Prakash Sharma and state convenor Awadh Bihari Mishra.

Mishra last spoke to Awadh Bihari on the afternoon of August 23 from his cellphone, 930787988, for six minutes.

Though this information has been with UP police for two months, no RSS, VHP or Bajrang Dal leader has been questioned. Inspector General of Police S.N. Singh, who is heading the investigation, said, “Bajrang Dal is not the focus of our investigation.”
