Police made a mild lathicharge to disperse enraged supporters of Congress MLA B K Sangamesh who created disturbances at an election meeting of party leader S Bangarappa at Bhadravathi near Shimoga after their leader was allegedly sidelined.

"Sangamesh's supporters created disturbances when Congress leaders did not provide him a chair on the dais during Bangarappa's election campaign in Bhadravathi", District Superintendent of Police, S Murugan told PTI.

They created a pandemonium, shouting slogans and after repeated appeals to pacify them proved futile, police "resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse them", he said.

Three local journalists, covering the meeting, suffered minor injuries, police said.
Sangamesh, according to some Congress leaders has entered into a "pact with BJP for the parliamentary elections and is not actively taking part in the Congress election campaign".

Because of this, senior leaders sidelined him at the meeting, the leader said adding they would pacify the agitated workers.

Former Chief Minister S M Krishna, who is in Bhadravathi, said "it is an internal matter of the party".
