Amid rising cases of kidnapping of children here, the city police has decided to sensitise school students against the crime and give them tips to protect themselves.
Under the drive, which begins on Monday, circle officers and other authorities will visit schools in their area and caution students against the threat.
"In such cases, the kidnapper is usually well acquainted with the child and manages to lure him easily," police spokesman S P Ramlal said.
The drive aims at giving children tips on being careful and alert, Ramlal said.
He said that teachers and principals are being given special instructions on the same.
"Schools have been asked not to allow their students to go with any one, who claims to be a relative, friend or neighbour. Parents should be called up immediately and informed about the stranger," Ramlal added.
The move comes after two children were kidnapped within a fortnight. In one of the cases, a child was killed even after the parents paid the ransom.
A rickshaw-puller was nabbed some days back while he was trying to kidnap two school girls.
