"Police have registered a case under section 302 against some unknown gunmen who shot dead Mohammad Arif Bhat near Abu Bakar Masjid at Jawahar nagar falling under the jurisdiction of police station Rajbagh last night," police said.

Bhat was shot dead around 8.30 PM outside his house by militants. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Bhat's body was taken to police control room, where wreaths were laid by policemen. Later the body was buried in his ancestral graveyard in Jawahar Nagar this afternoon.
