The JJ police are on the lookout for a 32-year-old man who allegedly murdered a eunuch and left the body in a lodge at Masjid Street on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, manager of Sabri lodge, Mohammed Iktikar Mohammed Jekatiya (56), called the police after they found the body of a 30-year-old eunuch — the face was slashed with a blade and a rope was tied around the neck — in room number 107.

Jekatiya told the police that the deceased, who was accompanied by a man, had checked in the lodge as Shabnam and Raju Wasim on Tuesday at 4.30 pm.

They told the manager they were siblings and had come from Delhi. Jekatiya said the duo left for sightseeing in the evening and returned at night. Next morning, Raju locked the room and left, he added.

“When the day manager was making the rounds, he saw the room locked,” said Sub-Inspector SA Bagvi.

On Wednesday morning, when the day manager again found the room locked, he became suspicious and decided to open it with the spare key. “We found the eunuch’s body on the bed,” said Jekatiya. “When they had checked in, Shabnam had covered her head and face with a dupatta, so I had assumed she was a woman.”

The duo were not from the city, Jekatiya added.

The police suspect that the accused had promised marriage to the eunuch and brought her to the city only to kill her here so that their identities could remain unknown.

“We found a mangalsutra near the body. Except for her clothes all other belongings were missing,” said Bagvi. “We have found a pair of hand gloves and a rope near the body clearly indicating that he had planned the murder.”

The police are preparing sketch of the accused based on Jekatiya’s description.
