Police were trying to ascertain the details of the Haj trip undertaken by suspected terrorist and SIMI activist, Mohammed Yahya Kammakutty, to Saudi Arabia.
"Yahya had undertaken a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia last year and was there for a month. We are verifying the details of the trip," a top police official told PTI on Sunday.
Police were trying to investigate whether his Haj trip was purely a religious one or whether Yahya had met any of his associates with suspected links with militant outfits or had engaged in any other activites, he said.
Police were also trying to verify whether Yahya, a former employee of GE Health System, was engaged in any business activities in the Middle East.
"Yahya has given us information, much of which was still in the process of being verified," he said. Police were also considering subjecting Yahya to narco analysis to garner more information on his activities and links with suspected terrorists.
"Right now he is in police custody. Once we have completed our interrogation, we will consider subjecting him to various tests, including narco analysis. A decsion on the matter will be taken later," he said.
Meanwhile, police in Kerala was keen on probing the past activities of Yahya, a native of that state, to find out whether there were any terrorist network in his home state.
"We will also be conducting our own investigation into his activities before arriving in Karnataka," he said.
Yahya was arrested by Corps of Detectives on February 21. He was remanded to police custody by a Hubli local court on Saturday.
