People from all walks of life paid tributes to martyrs during Shaheedi Divas observed across the state on Monday.

A function was organised at Police Lines here to mark the occasion.

Karnal range inspector general of police (IGP) Balbir Singh was among those who laid wreaths at the memorial. The day is observed every year to pay homage to police personnel who laid down their lives at Hot Spring (Ladakh) while patrolling in an attack by the Chinese army on October 21, 1959, and also those who sacrificed their lives while on duty elsewhere.

At the Haryana Police Academy (HPA), Madhuban, police personnel guarded salute, played the mourning tune and put their arms upside down as a mark of respect.

HPA director Sheel Madhur addressed the gathering and remembered contributions made by police personnel in various operations.
