The police here have rounded up 15 persons for questioning in connection with the killing of an unarmed constable by suspected terror operatives in old city on Friday.

A constable attached to Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) U Ramesh (26) was killed when one of the three motorcycle-borne assailants wearing masks opened fire at him in Shali Banda area under Hussaini-Alam police station limits.

"We have picked up 15 persons for questioning and gathering information from the shop-owners of the area who were eyewitnesses to the incident", a senior police officer said.

The police suspect that a terror operative Vicar Ahmed alias Vicaruddin, who has been absconding for the last three years, could be the mastermind behind Friday's incident, the officer said.

Meanwhile, the probe into the shooting has been handed over to Special Investigation Team (SIT), an expert probe wing of the city police, he said.
