Four armed persons shot dead a policeman during a police raid in Babhia village, a senior superintendant of police (SSP) said here on Saturday.
Aniruddha Yadav (42), driver of a police team which raided a location on receiving information Friday night regarding a robbery in Babhia village, was shot dead by four armed persons, SSP Akash Kulhari said.
Yadav was shot in the neck when the armed individuals opened fire. He was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Acting on a tip off, cantonment police station officer Akhtar Sajjad, sub-inspector Madanlal, constable Habeeb, homeguard Anand Bharati and driver Aniruddha Yadav had conducted a raid in Babhia village.
A person named Sarvesh Kashyap was detained during the raid. During the interrogation, he revealed that the robbery was committed by the accomplices of one Karan Gangwar alias Chottu of the Bahbia village.
However, Chottu could not be traced following which the police detained his father Krishnapal, against whom a non bailable warrant was already pending, the SSP said.
"Acting on an input, the police team conducted a raid at another place near the village where four armed persons attacked and opened fire at the team, in which Aniruddha was hit in his neck," he said.
Meanwhile the criminals escaped with Kishnapal, the SSP added.
