A police constable has been suspended and an inquiry ordered into the firing in Maisuma locality of the city that left five persons injured. "An inquiry has been initiated to know the facts which led to this incident and one police constable has been suspended", police said in a statement here today.

Police sources alleged that the policeman Feroz Ahmad working as personal security officer of the Station House Officer of Maisuma police Station had opened fire without the orders of the SHO yesterday. According to police, some protestors violated the restrictions on movement of people in Maisuma chowk and indulged in pelting stones at security forces in which two constables were injured. Following this, security forces opened fire, they said.
