Policemen booked for stealing in rape victim's house

A case was registered against a police sub-inspector and a constable for stealing cash and a mobile phone in connivance with a rape accused, in the victim's house, police said.

A case was on Thursday registered against a police sub-inspector and a constable for stealing cash and a mobile phone in connivance with a rape accused, in the victim's house, police said.

A woman had registered a case against one Santosh Kalegore stating that he had taken her to the MIDC area in the city on February 16 and raped her, Nanded rural police inspector Rajendra Kunte said.

Police sub-inspector Ramesh Tawdi and constable Bhagwan Pawar were asked to investigate the case, Kunte said.

Both went to the woman's house and in connivance with the accused, stole cash worth Rs 7000 and a mobile phone, he said.

Rural police carried out a panchanama and booked Tawdi and Pawar for stealing and registered an offence of rape against Kalegore.

Sources said that Pawar and Tawdi had been transferred to Itwara police station after the incident.
