A 15-year-old Dalit boy, charged with theft of a pigeon, allegedly died under mysterious circumstances in police custody in Haryana’s Gohana town on Thursday.

The police said the teenager’s body was found at his home in Gohana town in Sonepat district, though his family approached the police alleging that he died while in custody.

Responding to allegations, superintendent of police, Sonepat, Abhishek Garg said, “We have registered a case and will add appropriate sections after the post-mortem report comes. As far as his family’s allegations are concerned, we will take appropriate action if any such thing is found true during investigations”.

In another incident, two children of a Dalit family died on Tuesday after upper caste Rajput men allegedly poured petrol from the window and set their house ablaze while they were sleeping inside their home around 2:30 am on Tuesday in Sunperh village, in Faridabad.

Similarly, two years ago, over 200 Dalit families fled their homes after an upper-caste community attacked them over an inter-caste marriage in Kaithal district of Haryana.
