Congress on Thursday admitted that internal weakness and failure to highlight UPA's works were among reasons for its rout in the recent elections in Orissa, but claimed the ruling BJD misused administrative machinery in manipulating the results.

"There were some internal weaknesses. Selection of candidates for Lok Sabha and Assembly elections was also delayed," AICC General Secretary and Union Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters in Bhubaneswar after meeting state leaders to review poll performance during his visit.

There was a common feeling among party leaders that BJD hijacked most of the popular Central programmes like National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), road connectivity work and Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran programme, Azad said.

"In many cases the state government gave new names to Central programmes, while Congress workers failed to highlight these schemes and convince people that these were launched by the UPA government at the Centre," Azad said.

Many party leaders also alleged that money power played a major role in the elections and misuse of administrative machinery took place on a large scale, he said.

Some leaders also alleged of manipulation in EVMs, that benefited BJD.
