Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a Rs 80,000 crore economic package for the development of Jammu and Kashmir, saying it was the “beginning” of his plans for the state.
“Not only Delhi’s treasures, but Delhi’s ‘Dil’ (heart) is always for the people of Kashmir”, Modi said about his package that will cover relief for 2014 flood victims, farmers, businessmen, tourism, youth employment and infrastructure in the state.
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah rejected Modi’s speech, saying he had made a “mistake”. The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister tweeted: “PM Modi has made the same mistake of weighing the Kashmir issue in rupees and paise.”
A massive, multi-layered security has been placed in Srinagar for Modi’s visit and mobile internet services were affected. Does Modi’s financial package address the alienation of Kashmiris? Vote and tell us.
