Poll process in Mizoram began on Monday with the issue of notification by the Chief Electoral Officer Lalmalsawma for both the elections to the lone Lok Sabha seat and by-poll to South Tuipui assembly seat to be held simultaneously on April 16.
According to the notifications, schedules for both Lok Sabha and assembly by-poll are same.
Last date for filing nominations is on March 30 while scrutiny of nominations would be taken up on the next day and last date of withdrawal of candidature is on April 2.
Counting will begin on May 16 and election processes is expected to be over by May 28.
State joint Chief Electoral Officer Lalhmingthanga told PTI that preparations for the polls have been in full swing and the election commission is ready to conduct the polls.
Lalhmingthanga added that no extra security force would be deployed in the state during the polls as conduct of polls have been most peaceful in the earlier polls.
The ruling Congress has selected former minister C L Ruala to contest the parliamentary polls and John Siamkhuma, a rather unknown politician to contest South Tuipui assembly by-poll.
Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) and Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) combine is yet to finalise its candidate for Lok Sabha polls.
