Two spiritual leaders in Maharashtra's Nashik district have announced that they will be contesting Lok Sabha polls from the Nashik Parliamentary seat.
Mahamandaleshwar Swami Shantigiri Maharaj said that he will be contesting the elections from Nashik seat and also from north Maharashtra's Jalgaon Lok Sabha seat as an Independent candidate.
The decision was taken following the leader's followers' insisted him to contest polls to fight against the political parties who failed to solve issues on farmer suicides in Maharashtra, he said.
Earlier, Acharya Mahamadaleshwar Mahant Sudhirdas Maharaj had announced his poll candidature from the Nashik Parliamentary Constituency on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket.
At present, Nashik Constituency is led by sitting NCP MP Devidas Pingle with the party claiming both Dindori (ST) and Nashik seats this time.
Congress party leaders are insisting to leave Nashik seat for NCP but the seat-sharing between the two parties was not settled so far.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena, an ally with BJP, is finding good and strong candidate for Nashik Lok Sbha seat while Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is also likely to field its candidate from Nashik.
