Polluted Ganga on Amavasya: devotees shun holy dip

Thousands of devotees, who reached Shukratal for the holy dip in the Ganga on the occasion of Amavasya on Sunday, abstained from taking a holy dip when they noticed that thousands of fishes had died becaused of a poisonous chemical which was mixed in the Gangawater made the water foul smelling.


Right from the sunrise, people throunged on the Ganga Ghats where all the six ‘Purohits’(Pujari) with flowers for Pooja(worship) of Ganga were present and the officer bearers of the Ganga Samity were asking devotees no to have a dip because dead fishes were lying in thousands in the Gangs water.


As the matter related in the faith of the devotees, the SSP Muzaffarnagar and the SDM Jansath Ali Hassan Barni rechaed Shukrataal and samples of the Ganga water and of river solani which co- fluent with Ganga from Shukrataal were taken from six different places.Bhakti Das Mukund Shastri of Gawuya MATH, Veerpla Nirwal of BJP, Swami Vishnu Acharya, officer bearers of Ganga Samiti seemed very agitated and demanded action against the Industry responsible for making Ganga water polluted. On the direction of D.M.Muzaffarnagar a case has been registered against an Unknown Chemical factory of Uttarakhand for making Ganga Water contaminated by supplying chemical in it and killing the fishes.
