Police have intensified steps to arrest the four-member gang, which barged into a private restaurant and smashed the glass windows in Muthialpet on Puducherry-Kalapet route last week.
Police officials held a joint meeting in Puducherry on Sunday and reviewed the situation and drew up an action plan to ensure that there was no recurrence of such incidents, police sources said.
It was alleged that a four-meber gang had visited the restaurant a few days ago and tried to extort money from the owner.
On the owner refusing to pay them, the gang threatened him.
Later on May 21, they returned and smashed the windows of the restaurant and ransacked a few other shops in the area, including a cooperative departmental store and fled the scene, the sources added.
Traders in the area made a representation to the police authorities, seeking action against the culprits.
In the wake of the representation, police officials held a joint meeting and an action plan was evolved to ensure that there was no recurrence of such incidents.
Police patrolling would be intensified and constant vigil would be maintained in the area, the sources said.
