A MEETING of all heads of departments was held at the MGM Medical College on Wednesday to review the situation after the just concluded visit of the Medical Council of India (MCI) team.
“It was a simple review meeting after the MCI visit. We wanted to appreciate efforts put in by the staff and also discuss what was pointed out during the team’s visit,” Dean Dr V K Saini said here.
The meeting discussed points raised by the MCI team and means to comply, which can be handled at the College level. All the Heads of the Departments were asked to take measures to rectify loopholes pointed out during the visit as soon as possible.
One of the attending heads said, “We will have to work in coordination to comply. The meeting was possibly held today as Dr Saini, who was to leave for Bhopal, wanted to keep the data ready when the MCI report comes in and the College would have to put up its side.”
The three-member MCI team had pointed out several lacunae during the two-day visit on Monday and Tuesday particularly the shortage of teaching and staff.
The team had expressed concern over teachers’ insufficient number and also pointed out to absence of several equipments and machinery including teaching aids.
Plagued with problems ranging from lack of staff due to government policy about recruitment norms, unavailability of sophisticated equipment both at the College and the M Y Hospital, the biggest government facility in the State, the authorities and the staff had tried to put up a brave face during the two-day visit by the MCI team.
