CURFEW WAS relaxed for seven hours in six police station areas in Jabalpur on Saturday as the town limped back to normal.

According to officials, curfew was relaxed from 1800 hrs on Saturday till 0100 hrs on Sunday in Kotwali, Lordganj, Omti, Belbagh, Hanumantal and Gohalpur police station areas following improvement in the situation.

Prohibitory orders were clamped in these areas on Friday following tension in the city over tearing of religious posters one community in Lordganj and Hanumantal area.

Members of two communities had indulged in heated argument at Kamaia gate area on Friday forcing police to use mild cane charge to disperse the rival groups.

Curfew was initially relaxed for two hours between 6 pm to 8 pm on Saturday but the relaxation was extended in view of the improvement in the situation, officials said. No untoward incident has been reported from any part of the city since Friday night.

According to Collector Sanjay Dubey, the curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure and assessment of the ground realities in view of the Gajrath Mahotsav of Jain community, now underway and the Hindu Sammelan and Moharrum on January 30.
